Video Taping

One of the data collection methods I used was videotaping. I videotaped my students using the social skill in real time and then they watched it back, so the students could see themselves and how they were responding. This helped my students to understand the various situations and first hand see how they were reacting. Videotaping was helpful because we were able to pause the video and the student responded to how they should have responded in a given opportunity, versus how they may have actually responded.

School Generated Report Cards

I looked at school generated report cards. I used the seclusion and restraint data, as well as daily behavior sheets. This data showed the antecedent behaviors and triggers to our behavior events as well as the consequences that occurred with the student. Prior to social skill interventions a lot of our seclusion and data collected concluded many of our antecedent behaviors were due to peer conflict or conflict with an adult. This data also concluded that students did not know how to respond in difficult situations with both peers and adults. The social skills intervention showed effectiveness due to the data showing the antecedent behaviors were not related to the different social skills I taught and prompts I was utilizing. The daily behavior sheets also showed frequency of the target behavior overall throughout the day.

Passive Observations

A final form of data collection would be passive observations. This data collection method was used during role playing. I observed the students and did not provide any feedback until the end of the interaction. I chose to not participate in the role play because I want to see what the students have gained from the  narrative itself and watching the video of themselves. At the end of the role play I gave feedback discussing how they could have improved the interaction.
